you begin to use the Base-10 Math system contained within this basic mathematics workbook,
your mathematical world will be changed forever. Anyone using only multiplication method #1 and method #2 can learn how to multiply two digit numbers in their mind within a very short period of time.
For
Example: 12 x 18. Find the partial products and the product using Base-10 Math Multiplication Method-#1; of the (10) new multiplication "Methods" that are available in this Base-10 Math Workbook.
Base-10 Math Multiplication Method - # 1
Problem
- # 1: 12 x 18. Find the partial products and the product.
Math Tip - When using Base-10 Math multiplication method - # 1, before
you multiply any given set of whole numbers, always separate the Base-10
Number from the multiplier or the multiplicand, then proceed to multiply
from left to right. For Example: 12 x 18 (12 = 10 + 2) x 18.
First Step
- Separate the Base-10 Number (10) from the multiplier which is (12)
= (10 + 2); thus (10 + 2) becomes the multiplier for the problem (12
x 18).
Second
Step - Multiply (10 x 18) = (180) the partial product.
Third Step
- Multiply (2 x 18) = (36) the partial product, or to facilitate adding the partial products convert
(180 + 36) to (180 +20 + 16) and then add the partial products (180 + 20 + 16) = (216) the product.
Math Tip - To increase accuracy and speed when adding partial products,
always round off the largest partial product to the next largest hundred.
(100, 200, 300 etc.)

Example: 13 x 27. Find the partial products and the product using Base-10 Math Multiplication Method-#1; of the (10) new multiplication "Methods" that are available in this Base-10 Math Workbook.
Base-10 Math Multiplication Method - # 1
Problem
- # 2: 13 x 27. Find the partial products and the product.
Math Tip - When using Base-10 Math multiplication method - # 1, before
you multiply any given set of whole numbers, always separate the Base-10
Number from the multiplier or the multiplicand, then proceed to multiply
from left to right. For Example: 13 x 27 (13 = 10 + 3) x 27.
First Step

Step - Add the first numerical value of the multiplier to the multiplicand
which is ( 26 + 4 ) = 30; and subtract ( 4 ) from the multiplier which is

Second
Step - Multiply the results of the first step which are ( 20 x 30 ) = 600.
Third
Step - Multiply the first numerical values of both the multiplier (24) and the
multiplicand (26) which are ( 4* x 6* ) = 24* ; and then add the results of the partial
products of the second and third steps which are ( 600 + 24* ) = 624 the product.

Step - Add the first numerical value of the multiplier to the multiplicand
which is ( 37 + 3 ) = 40; and subtract ( 3 ) from the multiplier which is
( 33 - 3 ) = 30.
Second
Step - Multiply the results of the first step which are ( 30 x 40 ) = 1200.
Third
Step - Multiply the first numerical values of both the multiplier (33) and the
multiplicand (37) which are ( 3* x 7* ) = 21* ; and then add the results of the partial
products of the second and third steps which are ( 1200 + 21* ) = 1221 the product.
